Automotive Technicians

Automotive · Sydney NSW, Australia · Full-Time · $80,000/yr

Experienced in a car workshop and ready for a bigger step? Reputable dealerships and automotive groups across multiple Australian states are reviewing automotive technicians who already have solid workshop backgrounds.

The brands and technical settings vary a lot. Some workshops handle premium European and luxury vehicles; others look after Japanese and Korean makes or new electric vehicle brands. Roles on offer may include Automotive Technician, Senior Technician, Diagnostic Technician, Master Technician, EV/High-Voltage Technician and Technical Specialist.

The main question employers ask is simple: what have you done, where did you learn it, and which technical work do you truly know? You will need a completed TRA Skills Assessment and the required English-language test, so start these early and check which test (such as IELTS or PTE) is accepted before you book.

  • Work with advanced diagnostic equipment and the latest workshop technology
  • Do servicing, scheduled maintenance, mechanical repairs and part replacements
  • Inspect each vehicle and decide what repairs it needs
  • Work to the manufacturer's repair procedures and technical specifications
  • Handle modern electronic vehicle systems and ECU technology, and do EV, hybrid and high-voltage work if you have suitable training
  • Keep clear and accurate records of inspections, diagnostics and completed repairs
  • Keep the workshop safe and organised, and work well with other technicians and workshop staff
  • Give every repair the same quality and workmanship
